Frequently Asked Questions

The Colony, Texas
Heaven Moving moving and relocation

How far ahead should I book?

For a local move in the northern Dallas suburbs, two weeks is comfortable and one week is usually workable outside of peak season. The end of the month, the last two weeks of June and the first two weeks of August book up first, because leases turn over and school schedules drive family moves. If your date falls in one of those windows, book as soon as the date is firm.

Long-distance moves within Texas need more lead time, three to four weeks, because the crew and the truck are committed for more than a day.

Do you move apartments and townhouses?

Yes, and a lot of them. The Colony, Frisco and Plano have a large share of third-floor walk-ups and townhouses with narrow stair turns. We ask about stairs, elevators, loading dock reservations and gate codes during the walk-through so the crew arrives knowing the building. For elevator buildings we can coordinate the reservation with your leasing office.

Can you pack everything, or only the fragile items?

Either. Full packing means the crew arrives the day before with boxes, paper and tape and packs the whole home. Partial packing usually means the kitchen, the framed art and the electronics, which are the items most people would rather not pack themselves. Many customers pack their own clothes and books and leave the breakables to us.

Unpacking is available on the delivery side as well, down to placing dishes in cabinets and breaking down the empty boxes.

What happens with a move in a Texas summer?

We start early. A summer move day in The Colony usually begins at seven so the heaviest lifting is done before the afternoon heat. The crew carries water, works in rotation, and takes the breaks they need. Furniture is wrapped inside the house where possible rather than on a hot driveway, and anything heat-sensitive, like candles, vinyl records or houseplants, is flagged for the cab of the truck or your own car.

How are long-distance moves within Texas priced?

Local moves are billed by the hour with a crew and truck size agreed in advance. Moves from the Dallas area to Houston, Austin or San Antonio are priced as a flat quote based on the inventory from the walk-through, the distance, and whether you need packing. The quote is written and the number does not change unless the inventory does.

Is a piano or a gun safe a problem?

No, but tell us in advance. Uprights and baby grands need a piano board, extra straps and the right number of people. Gun safes and large commercial-grade items need a stair-climbing dolly. Both are routine when we know they are on the list and awkward when they are a surprise on move day.
